The crowd is where the power is not
Gates, vendor rows and parking areas are often far from any power or network. Ticket scanning, point of sale and staff devices need a connection, and parking areas need light after dark.
Diesel light towers provide light, but they need fuel deliveries during the event and carry no network.
Industry figure, not a Golden Lab measurement: a diesel light tower burns about 0.75 gallons an hour, which is about 270 gallons a month at 12 hours a night for 30 nights (Pro Contractor Rentals). Actual burn varies by model and load.
